I leave them standing there with their chin on the ground. I hear things like "but you have a family/kids!" or "but you seem so normal" yes, I am thank you very much! LOL!! We are all normal everyday people who happen to live without a god/gods. What are we suppose to be like? are we suppose to have talons, horns? are we suppose to be reading "how to cook a baby for dinner in 5 easy steps"? the misconceptions about atheist abound! Then I hear "I have never known an atheist before!" Although, I must say the "chanting in the nude" thing sounds rather fun, I have never done it. I was told people like that were hell bound. I was not terrified because of that though, I was terrified because he was me! He thought the same things I had all of my life, but he was brave enough to say them aloud, at that point in my life I was really trying to believe so that I would not go to hell. I could not believe no matter what I did. I could go to church, but I never felt "moved" I never felt the holy spirit, I never heard god talking to me, I never felt emotional about any of it. I tried, but could not. I always thought something was wrong with me, now I have figured out that I was probably the only sane one in the bunch! It did not work, because just like a hypnotist has to have a participant who is willing to be hypnotized, religion has to have people who are willing to follow blindly. I had always been an atheist, but that year my daughter was put into hospice. I was sick of hearing that god had a reason. I was sick of seeing these people walk the halls of the Children's hospital just to come into my room and tell me that we would know why in god's time and they were praying for me. Only 2 people ever brought me food, none offered to sit with me, none wanted to acknowledge the many children in that hospital as they walked the halls to get to our room. I was disgusted with trying to be a christian when I knew it was all a load of shit anyways. I came out at that point. Some believe it was because of my daughter's illness, it was not. I can remember at the age of 5 telling my Sunday School teacher that it was a silly fairy tale. I can remember making up prayer request in Sunday school because I thought it was stupid, and I wanted to have a little fun. Told the whole class once that my grandparents were eaten by an allegator at the local zoo while visiting the previous day, but god answered our prayer for their safe return by puking them back up. Teacher did not think it was amusing, I explained that if a "big fish" could puke up Jonah unharmed with god's help after 3 whole days, the alligator should be able too as well, right? I was not allowed back in her class, seems she had a difficult time explaining why one scenario would work, while the other would not. It was a great sacrifice to come out back then, more so than it is now. Seems we are growing in numbers these days, that's a good thing. I am grateful to those who have given me courage to come out, and am grateful to those who continue to be firm and outspoken and continue to give me courage to stand my ground. I would never go back to the chains that bound, I would never be a slave to religion again, I am at last free! However, it is because of you people that I no longer hide in the shadows. I also knew that I could not take her to all the places to see all the things I, Luis and my other children had seen, so I went and bought huge sheets of canvas, taped them around her room and started painting scenes of things we had seen. We played noises of the Serengeti as we painted and talked about the lions, we talked of swimming in the Mediterranean as we painted the sea, so many things we painted all over the room. we read a lot of stories of the places depicted in the pictures. The nurse came in every week, she watched as we did all of this, she encouraged it, she said she was an outsider looking in as our family journeyed from one place to another in that bedroom.&lt;/span&gt; &lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;  &lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: Verdana, Arial, Tahoma, Calibri, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: -webkit-auto; background-color: rgb(250, 250, 250); "&gt;Then Elly died. September 11, 2003 she died in mine and Luis arms. I left the paintings up in her room as the equipment company came and picked up small pieces of Elly's life here and there. I left everything in place as the nurse came to go through and pick up the things that could be donated to someone else. She then told me that there was a silent auction going on to benefit children in hospice. She thought it was too soon to approach me, but if I wish to donate one of Elly's paintings in her memory, it was two weeks away. I told her I would think about it. I never thought they were good enough. I had always painted for pleasure only, the fact that others would see my work was very scary for me.&lt;/span&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;  &lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: Verdana, Arial, Tahoma, Calibri, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: -webkit-auto; background-color: rgb(250, 250, 250); "&gt;Three days before the auction, I called. I asked if it was too late, and it wasn't I was told. I took a paintbrush that afternoon and painted Elly's name in every one of the paintings. She inspired my work, she should be a part of it. I gave one of my paintings the next day, still a little wet and told them Elly's name was buried somewhere within. I would reveal where it was the night of the auction. I really did not expect it to bring in much, but it was a tribute for my daughter.&lt;/span&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;  &lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: Verdana, Arial, Tahoma, Calibri, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: -webkit-auto; background-color: rgb(250, 250, 250); "&gt;The night of the auction came, and as I walked into the room I felt uncomfortable. My daughter had been dead all of two weeks and I was somewhat emotional but held it together. I walked around looking at all of the things that were in the auction and even bid on a few. Then I stopped to look at my painting, a small picture of Elly stuck in the corner. It would be gone in a few hours, forever lost. As I stood there some women came by and I listened as they told my story to one of the other ladies there. They told her how a mother took her dying daughter around the world with her paintings. They told her of Elly's name being in the painting. They looked for it. No one found it. Then one of them proceeded to tell me the story. No one knew I was the mother of whom they were speaking. This happened many times through the evening and I was thrilled that Elly's story had been told over and over. Everyone knew Elly though they had never met her. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: Verdana, Arial, Tahoma, Calibri, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: -webkit-auto; background-color: rgb(250, 250, 250); "&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;  &lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: Verdana, Arial, Tahoma, Calibri, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: -webkit-auto; background-color: rgb(250, 250, 250); "&gt;Time came for bidding to end. I had not really paid attention through the evening at how much the painting was going for. They started naming off winners and much to my surprise my painting was the most coveted thing in that room! That painting went for 2,400.00! Then they revealed the painter, me. The room fell silent, no one knew the painter had been there all along. They asked me to come forward and tell my story of Elly. As I walked to the podium, I heard thunderous applause. As I turned to face my audience I saw that I had my first standing ovation! It was invigorating! I gave a very short speech and left the stage.&lt;/span&gt;  &lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: Verdana, Arial, Tahoma, Calibri, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: -webkit-auto; background-color: rgb(250, 250, 250); "&gt;I donate a painting every year now, whether I am there or not. I have been their guest speaker a total of 6 times over the past 9 years. Word of Elly spread all over the state in which we lived. people would actually seek out my paintings. I had a few gallery shows in Little Rock. I never went any further than that. I have sold a few over the years, but nothing has ever felt as good as donating them to causes I find worthy. All I ask is that they tell my Elly's story. I am still amazed at how many lives have been touched by a little girl who saw the world from her bedroom. What, do they take a class called "Being an ass to all American citizens 101"? I think they not only take it as a class, I think it is a year long course and they award prizes to those who come up with the nastiest, most sadistic ways to harass and terrorized U.S. citizens and anyone else they can get their hands on at the border. I think they specialize it it! &lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Let us not forget, it is our tax dollars that pay their salary. Let us not forget that I have tried like hell to be nice to them, I am finished being nice. "I am not required to be nice to you lady." he says, well heads up there fuckhead, I am not required to be nice to your either! I am scared, hurt and dumbfounded. We lost our sponsor who was going to help Luis come home. Our way out of Mexico, my way back to medical help. I am scared. I wonder what kind of future my children have, I wonder what my future will be? With no education my children, who mean everything to me, will be doomed to live a life of poverty. We have mulled over every option. If we divorce, I lose the love of my life and still can not go home. I have no money and no help with the children. If I stay here with the kids, my children receive no education and live in a dangerous place, and I have no medical care for the ongoing issues for which I am dealing. If we put our children up for adoption in the U.S. and go our separate  ways we have done exactly what we were trying to avoid, ripping our family apart.  So I set up in the dead of night and mull this over. I hold my girls a little closer these days. I really do not know what our future holds, whether our family will stay together or if we go our separate ways. If I were in better health, I could at least move my family to a border town and work in the U.S. to make sure my family makes a decent living, if only I were healthy. My mother would be so heartbroken. I am so heartbroken. I type through tears that seem endless. It is so hard to imagine that just two years ago we were and average middle to upper class family living in a nice home and we were happy and healthy. I was happy, Luis was happy, our children were happy. I loved life. If it were not for the fact that I would be leaving the very people I love so deeply and leaving him, who I love and would never just leave hanging, I would just curl up and wish to just fade away. &lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;As it stands I will go lay in my bed and get whatever sleep I can, it escapes me most days now with all the worry, and I will hold my girls a little closer tonight, I will say "I Love You" to Luis and I will hope that something, somewhere will work out for us so we can remain a family. We are a secular family and most home school families are Christian. I am happy to see the secular home school groups sprouting up all over the United States recently. Have you seen the state our public school system is currently in? Our math and science is sorely lacking, as is our grammar! Very few students can remember what they are taught from week to week, once they pass that test, the slate is wiped clean. I am a product of public schools and I think it is safe to say I had four very good teachers who inspired me and pushed me to do my best in my twelve years of school. I never really learned anything in school during those years, most of my learning came after school when my father and mother would take time through out the evening to talk to me, read to me, tell me about history, show me how math is used in the real world. I wish home school had been legal back when I was young. My years spent in school was spent in complete agony. I was constantly in the bathroom hiding out from emotional bullies, more days then not I could be found somewhere crying. I hated school, and worse, it hated me. It wasn't enough I got it from a lot of the students, but some of the teachers were emotionally abusive as well. I decided I would not put my kids through that. Twice my son was enrolled in public school, both times it was a nightmare, for him and us. The first time the teacher refused to let my son go to the bathroom and he came home daily with urine stained underwear. Then something major happened, he started defecating in his pants. Seems the teacher had made it a point not to let him go, and he held it day in and day out that he became impacted! He was referred to a gastroenterologist who told me it was a common thing among teachers and it made her angry to no end. He was on medication for a year before it was straightened out, and still suffers ill effects of that first 6 months in 1st grade many years ago. We filed a lawsuit against the school district and the teacher. They settled out of court, paying all of his medical bills and medications as well as monetary damages. The teacher told me what a huge mistake I was making when I pulled him, I would never be able to home school. How wrong she was! I had as much, actually more education than she did, I had his best interest at heart, I could not possibly do any worse than the public school did with him. We found home school social groups, co-ops, and nearby universities who offered extras such as science lab, classes in robotics, speech and drama, and world history. We had him in Earth Scouts, drama classes and art classes at the local Art museum, and 4H and Irish dance. He took years of Taek won do. We taught him music and let him play in sessions locally so he could learn about his favorite music. We went on field trips both as a family and part of our home school group. We contacted universities and asked for dvd's of professors who gave lectures on subjects on which we were covering. we traded "tutor time" with other parents who had expertise and degrees in areas that we did not. I would teach their children Languages and world history, they would teach mine Algebra. It was a well rounded education. They could socialize with people of all ages, carrying on an intelligent conversation with a 40 year old, or a 10 year old. We had more socialization than public school kids, because we had more time! when you home school, you find that you do not need 8 hours a day to teach all subjects, and that learning is an ongoing process and goes on long after the books and workbooks are put away. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; text-align: left; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; line-height: 1.5em; "&gt; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; text-align: left; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; line-height: 1.5em; "&gt; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; text-align: left; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; line-height: 1.5em; "&gt;My kids are read to on a regular basis. they are encouraged to help build things with their father, using that opportunity to give math drills, to cook in the kitchen with me or dad again, using math skills. They learned to balance a checkbook, and do their taxes before the age of 10. They love to read and our little ones are just as likely to read you a story as they are to ask for a story. Our older son is involved in reading classics right now, and is animated as he describes what he thinks the writer was trying to say. He is very aware of the political goings on in the US and around the world and is free to form his own opinions. I like the way this is going, I am glad we decided to go the route of home schooling. Now when people ask why we home school, I can sum it up in just a few sentences:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; text-align: left; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; line-height: 1.5em; "&gt; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; text-align: left; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; line-height: 1.5em; "&gt; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; text-align: left; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; line-height: 1.5em; "&gt;We home School because public education, as currently implemented, is designed to systematically drive the joy of learning out of children as early as possible: tedious homework; fixed class periods that are rarely just the right length for learning the material; disjoint subjects that obfuscate the relationship between information and useful real-world applications; stressful tests and quizzes; segregation by age and ability; severely limited selection of potential friends, typically 12 years of the same group of 30 kids; limited control over such basic functions as when to awaken, eat or urinate; KIDS SITTING, for HOURS. It's amazing anyone learns anything at all, despite this contrived, convoluted, Byzantine environment. I admire teachers, but they are just as limited and victimized by the strictures of the system as students. In fact, he was a wonderful father that gave me a perfect childhood, and treated my mother like a queen! I know many men in the ministry who are fabulous people. Are they mislead? you bet. Do I think they are misguided or brainwashed? yes indeed! Not all of them are all hell fire and brimstone, and not all of them are greedy money hungry power whores. I know many who have given their own money to help others. These people would have been good people whether they were christians or not because they were just good hearted and good natured. I have many family members that are genuinely good people at heart, and I guarantee you that when a child molester is found to be present in a church, they are just as angry, disgusted, and sick about it as we feel. To generalize all of these people in the same category is the same as saying ALL Mexicans are lazy, or generalizing any other ethnic group, or organization we do not like. It is the same as saying all atheist are hateful and spiteful toward religious groups, or all atheist are devil worshipers (as if!) I see a lot that is wrong with religion, but I see a lot that is wrong from many atheist too. I know that the prisons are filled with far more christians than atheist, I realize there are many crooks among the christians, I also make no apologies for feeling that christians are needy or gullible, otherwise they would not buy into the BS much like fat people buy into the 'lose weight overnight' scheme, or the poor are always chasing a 'get rich scheme'. But when something  is said about pastors in general, I feel it is a slap in the face to wonderful people like my father who gave his time and money helping others, and I feel I must remind that these people are not all bad, after all, not all pastors, not all christians, are child molesters and not all atheist are the epitome of goodness and wholesomeness. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;I knew this person for 6 years, we had a causal friendship through work. One day the topic came to church and she asked where I attended. I told her I did not attend anywhere because I am an atheist. She was shocked! She said "But you're so nice, and giving, I would have never guessed?!" At that point she realized Atheist does not = bad, hateful, or spiteful. I like to win people over by letting them get ton know me and seeing for themselves that we are indeed good without god. I have won more people over to my way of thinking this way than I ever could have by cutting them down and being nasty to them.  Do we need to be firm on our position on government and political issues? you bet we do, but we can be firm without being nasty and disgusting. I have never needed to be loud and offensive to get my point across and have learned that that is an automatic turn off. Let them look like an ass, I refuse. Really want too? I am fine with that myself. I went to the Immigration office here in Mexico last Friday and today I am a holder of an FM3 status and have my curp (Much like a social security #) it took all of one week. Yes, I agree. Let's adopt Mexico's immigration laws. While we are at it we can adopt their open arms policy of granting status to the spouse of Mexican citizens without a lot of red tape and bureaucratic bullshit! Now excuse me while I go work on my husbands 3 thick files that require 3 separate appointments and many more documents than U.S. Immigration will ever be able to look at to make any fast and easy decision. It will take at the least one year at the most 5 to get my spouse to the U.S. &lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;No wonder the US Immigration system is in the crapper, they make it difficult on themselves as well as US citizens families with all the red tape, paperwork, and appointment juggling. It is the most inefficient, disorganized mess I have ever witnessed. First this place gets this file, then that place receives file #2 then it all goes to place #3 and fill out forms I130, DS230, I864, I601 and if you live in the states add forms I486 and EAD form. and pay an amount for each form. Are you confused? So is US Immigration! They don't know whether to wind their butt or scratch their watch!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;I walked into the ONE immigration office here in the town in which we live, filled out ONE form, turned in a copy of my last 3 bank statements and a copy of my American passport and paid 130.USD. and within one week I was given my legal status. Jesus clearly said to take care of all, not matter whether they are one of your own, or not. No matter what you think of him/her, it is your job to take care of that person. How did she miss this in the New Testament? Jan, if you are going to claim to be a christian, use your bible as a reference manual, a set of directions if you will. The profiling law you passed in Arizona is there for one purpose, to stir the hate. Today the Mexicans, next who? You, Gov. Jan Brewer, are making your state a target. A target for many lawsuits for many years to come. A target for hate groups such as the KKK, Neo Nazis, Skin Heads and other various militia groups. Clinics in rural areas closing due to lack of funding, they have lost their clients! The housing market in your state is between a rock and a hard place now with banks having to cut their losses.&lt;/a&gt; Is this your fictional god punishing you for making poor decisions and clearly acting against what he has told you to do? The group announced the lawsuit in the letter to McDonald's 30 days before filing it with the hope that the company will agree to stop selling the toys before a suit is filed.&lt;/p&gt;                 &lt;p&gt;McDonald's Vice President of Communications, William Whitman, said in a statement that the company "couldn't disagree more" with CSPI's assertion that their toys violate any laws. "Getting a toy is just one part of a fun, family experience at McDonald's."&lt;/p&gt;                 &lt;p&gt;CSPI says the suit would be filed in state court. "They don't always want to be saying no to their children. We feel like an awful lot of parents would be relieved if this one pressure was removed from them."&lt;/p&gt;                 &lt;p&gt;McDonald's also came under fire over Happy Meals earlier this year when it recalled 12 million "Shrek" drinking glasses sold with the meals. It is my job to make sure my kids eat healthy. When we drive by McDonalds and my kids start whining for a happy meal I say NO, and keep driving past McDonalds. How freaking difficult is that? What we have here is a case of LAZY PARENTING and lack of responsibility. Parents just do not want to deal with their own kids. Violators faced anywhere from five to 15 years in prison. I do not remember Christ teaching to have an attitude of hate toward their fellow man.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yea, you keep rockin on there Walt! today they tell gays what they can and can not do in their bedroom, now straight folks are being told they can't engage in anal sex or oral sex, next thing you know you will be told what positions you can and can not use within the privacy on your own bedroom. you might think about this law the next time you want your gal to give you a BJ there Walt!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);" class="text_exposed_show"&gt;Now I ask you, what kind of dumb ass respects or even thinks this law can be good or useful? First and foremost, I do not want a lawmaker to tell me what I can and can not do in my bedroom. My husband and I can decide that on our own fine without outside interference. How are they going to enforce this law anyways? you have no proof of what one does in their bedroom. I know couples who are celibate due to medical reasons. I know gay men who are in relationships who are celibate!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We know this law is aimed at the GLBT community which you should know I stand behind 100% they pay taxes, they are first rate citizens, they are my brothers and sisters. I believe in equal rights for ALL!! now, it may be aimed at the GLBT community, but if you read the law, it also targets the heterosexual community as well. Hey, what straight woman doesn't like a little cunnilingus? what straight man doesn't like a blow job? well be careful, they are now treading into your territory! No matter how you feel about Gay rights, if you stand by and do not support their rights, the government will take them away, then they will come after YOU! Next thing you know we are back to missionary position and anything else will be punishable by jail time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I fully expect this law to be repealed by ACLU. Prayers and practical compassionate care is truly needed. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; But sometimes things are said in the midst of crises that exacerbate the already raw feelings of grieving people. So then what's all the fuss about Pat Robertson's remarks?&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; I first knew something was up while driving yesterday. I heard two national conservative talk radio personalities make some disparaging remarks about Pat Robertson, who, by the way, is one of the reasons they even have jobs. Pat was one of the most important leaders of a resurgent conservative movement.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; When I got home I immediately looked up what Pat said and I was overwhelmed. But not by what Robertson had said, rather by the hype and hysteria of those who took an expression of genuine concern and hope for Haiti's future and used it to bash Pat.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; Last week it was Fox News analyst Brett Hume's turn to be attacked because he dared to compassionately urge Tiger Woods to turn to Christianity and find forgiveness and redemption. Now it's Pat Robertson's turn. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; Perhaps what we have here is a simple failure to communicate, but then again, what Pat said was not complicated. Or is it that there is so much contempt against Pat Robertson and /or what he represents, that no benefit of the doubt is to be afforded him? Or is there something else in play. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; What exactly did Pat say that was so terribly egregious? &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; First he retold a very familiar story about the history of Haiti about a pact that was made by its revolutionary leaders. In exchange for help in throwing out the French Haiti would serve satan. Some have disputed this ever happened. But what is indisputable is Haiti's history ever since then has been one of incredible suffering. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; To use Pat's words, Haiti's history was, "cursed, desperately poor." Then Pat went on to describe the incredible economic disparity between Haiti, which sits on one side of the Island of Hispaniola, and the Dominican Republic on the other side. So was Pat using "cursed" literally or metaphorically? &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; The modern cynic chaffs at any suggestion that there may be a connection between historical realities and unseen spiritual influences, or as the Bible calls it God's "blessing or cursing." Although most people are very comfortable with the notion that God blesses people, we are not at all comforted with the terrifying prospect that Almighty God might also curse. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; The overwhelming majority of Americans believe in God and /or moral causality. Eastern religions call it Karma, but Christians call it God's Providence. I wonder if the reason that so many hate Pat is because he expressed what many Americans don't want to face- the moral and spiritual dimension of our lives. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; As long as everything is going well we live as if we are never going to die. Then crisis hits and death slaps us in the face. Rather than humbling ourselves and searching our hearts like the Pilgrims did, we lash out at God and anyone who dares insinuate Him into our lives. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; What the Robertson bashers left out is that finally, and with great compassion and concern in his voice, Pat said, "They need to have, and we need to pray for them, a great turning to God and out of this tragedy I am optimistic that some good thing may come, but right now we are helping the suffering people and the suffering is unimaginable." &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; Agree or disagree with what Pat said, it was well within the bounds of historic Christian theology. Maybe that's the real problem after all. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; Man is offended by the fact that he is not God. They resent God's Providence. A simple reading of the Bible shows how God uses natural disasters to further his purposes. Earthquakes, floods, famine, locusts, etc. they're all there, but man hates it. Rather than humbly acknowledging that God's ways are not our ways, man rails against and accuses God. The last thing they will do is cry out for his mercy in Jesus Christ. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; So Pat is an easy target. But before you judge him perhaps you ought to know that the whole time he was making these comments they had the number on their screen for their viewers to give to their humanitarian relief organization Operation Blessing. OB has already been at work in Haiti long before the earthquake. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; Operation Blessing has touched the lives of more than 209.3 million people in 105 countries and all 50 states, providing goods and services valued at more than $1.7 billion. So, once you have surpassed that, then you will be in a better place to judge Pat Robertson. Because last I experienced, it was the non Non-Christians who were having their freedom of speech stifled. case in point, over the holidays, many Freethinkers tried to place displays on court lawns in different states, and cities. Many had to fight in court for that right, including the state I live in, Arkansas.  Jerry Cox, our local Christian Martyr cried, pissed, moaned and whined about how we were trying to make sure their display of the nativity was taken down, how freethinkers were trying to tear apart the christian holiday. If it had not have been so damn funny, it would have been sad. Freethinkers pretty much believe that if you want to believe all the silly shit, do so. But please leave us alone to disbelieve as we wish. Had we been a Jewish group wanting to set up a menorah we would have not been bothered. Had we been a new church in the area wanting to set up a Christian display, They would have backed us. Our display was not demeaning, or distasteful. We were bashed in the news, as were other freethinking and atheist groups across the nation. Christian Bashing? But this is not really about justice. Honest homosexuals admit that these laws are not needed for law enforcement purposes. This is not like during the time when blacks were being murdered and denied justice by corrupt courts so that the Federal government had to intervene. There is no similar pattern of injustice or lack of enforcement towards victims who are homosexual. The attempt to include sexual orientation into law is only one more step in the process to normalize homosexual behavior. This is part of an incremental strategy to force acceptance of homosexuality into all parts of the culture under the color of law and to punish those who appose it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;p style="text-align: left;"&gt;Hate crimes enhancements turns justice on its head and creates unequal justice under law. Rather than correcting an inequity, like it originally did for blacks, now it creates injustice. Hates crimes creates a class of criminals who are “more guilty,” not because of what they did, but because of what they might have been thinking. It also creates unequal justice for different classes of victims, some who are considered “more worthy” of greater legal protection than others. Thomas Jefferson said, “the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, &amp;amp; not opinions…” The government is not competent to read a person's mind, much less criminalize his opinions.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="text-align: left;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Problems&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ol style="text-align: left;"&gt;&lt;li&gt;Proving hatred as a motivation is very difficult and a matter of opinion, thus prone to abuse. By the way, when has a criminal ever lovingly murdered, assaulted or vandalized? Hate crimes assumes that when a particular person is harmed there is harm to a similar class of victims. This harm is simply assumed, and the criminal is unjustly punished for an unproven crime.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;What other groups are we supposed to add to the victim class? There is no limit to the number of groups one can think of by characteristics- size, parentage, freckles, glasses, left handed, red hair? Equal justice under law is the just, equitable biblical standard.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;It is rather easy to fake the appearance of a hate crime in order to gain sympathy for one’s group. This has happened and has been increasing in popularity.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Murder, assault and vandalism are already criminalized under state statutes. Jurisdiction for these kinds of crimes belong to the states, unless the states are not enforcing them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Hate crime laws are merely “feel-good statutes” which are being used primarily to effect social change by normalizing homosexual behavior. In some states with hate crimes people have been accused of hate crimes simply for preaching the Gospel which the state defines as biased against a particular group. This is an assault on First Amendment rights of free speech, Religious Liberty and freedom of conscience. If these intrusive laws are passed, the truth about the homosexual behavior will be suppressed by those who call the truth hate. The church has a spiritual obligation to call &lt;strong&gt;all&lt;/strong&gt; sinners to repentance, including those who indulge in homosexual behavior, lest they suffer its negative consequences emotionally, physically, spiritually and eternally. &lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;p style="text-align: left;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Christians Already Jailed for Practicing Freedom of Speech&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;ol style="text-align: left;"&gt;&lt;li&gt;St. Petersburg, Fla. Five Christians including two pastors were arrested at a homosexual rally for stepping onto the public sidewalk instead staying caged in their officially designated "free speech zone."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Elmira, N.Y. The Elmira police arrested seven Christians for praying in a public park where a homosexual festival was getting started.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Crystal Lake, Ill. Two 16-year-old girls are facing felony "hate crime" charges for the content of their flyers.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Philadelphia, Pa. Arlene Elshinnawy, a 75-year-old grandmother of three, and Linda Beckman, a 70-year-old grandmother of 10 (along with nine others), were arrested for sharing their faith on the public sidewalk. &lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Here is the problem, once again, a Christian writer has bent the truth to fit their needs. After much research, this is what I have found concerning each of the cases listed.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;ul style="text-align: left;"&gt;&lt;li&gt;St. Petersburg, Fla. Five Christians, including two pastors, were arrested at a homosexual rally for stepping onto the public sidewalk instead of staying caged in their officially designated "free speech zone." Their signs were also "illegal" because they were slightly "bigger than their torsos." Apparently, large people are entitled to more speech than those with smaller frames. &lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;         &lt;/div&gt;&lt;p style="text-align: left;"&gt;Surprise -- the leader of the protests, Rev. Billy Ball, is another bullhorn wielding preacher, and it turns out that one of his protesters reportedly frightened an 8-year-old child by walking up to her and her mother with a sign that said, "You're Going To Hell.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;p style="text-align: left;"&gt;2.  Elmira, N.Y. The Elmira police arrested seven Christians for &lt;em&gt;praying&lt;/em&gt; in a public park where a homosexual festival was getting started. A female officer told the group, "You're not going to enter the park, and you're not going to share your religion with anybody in this park." The group of seven didn't say anything, but got down on their faces and silently prayed. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;&lt;blockquote&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/blockquote&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;p style="text-align: left;"&gt;They were promptly placed in handcuffs.          &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="text-align: left;"&gt; left out was an important detail : According to a June 24 Elmira Star-Gazette article on the incident, the group did their silent praying in front of the stage, thus disrupting the event. Crystal Lake, Illinois. Two 16 year old girls are facing felony "hate crime" charges for the content of their flyers.                  &lt;p&gt;Another misleadingly benign statement. The girls in Crystal Lake, in fact, faced charges after allegedly plastering their high school’s halls and distributing anti-gay fliers directed towards a fellow student. The flyers apparently stemmed from a recent dispute between one of the girls who was arrested and one of the boys who was pictured. Classmates said the flier showed a picture of two boys kissing along with the words, "God hates fags." The prosecuting attorney said the students targeted a specific person and his sexual orientation; others have called it merely a prank that went too far. Seems like bullying to me!&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;4. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Arlene Elshinnawy, a 75-year-old grandmother of three, and Linda Beckman, a 70-year-old grandmother of 10 (along with nine others), were arrested for sharing their faith on the public sidewalk. &lt;/p&gt;         &lt;p&gt;Elshinnawy and Beckman are the two women painted as innocent grandmothers. As  documented, "sharing their faith on the public sidewalk" is a misleadingly benign description of what they were doing; in fact, they were doing the bidding of street preacher Michael Marcavage of the group Repent America, who used a bullhorn to try an interrupt a stage performance at a gay street festival in Philadelphia, and were arrested only after they refused to go to an area on the edge of the event.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Seems we do indeed need Hate Crime Legislation. Quiet frankly, it looks as though minorities need to be protested from Christians. "We will do business with other evangelical leaders, friends of Israel, but not with him."&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(51, 51, 255);"&gt; Pat Robertson tried to make up for his remarks with a letter to Sharon's son, Omri. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(51, 51, 255);"&gt;In the letter he said, &lt;span style="color: rgb(204, 0, 0); font-style: italic;"&gt;"My concern for the future safety of your nation led me to make remarks which I can now view in retrospect as inappropriate and insensitive in light of a national grief experienced because of your father's illness."&lt;/span&gt; He then went on to say, &lt;span style="color: rgb(204, 0, 0); font-style: italic;"&gt;"I ask your forgiveness and the forgiveness of the people of Israel." &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt; So,  this letter was a little too late to resurrect a Christian Heritage center that Robertson planned for Israel, complete with studios and tours. It would have brought millions to the Israel economy. Israel is smart enough to take money from a person who has shown his true thoughts of Arial Sharon by his comments. They needed the money, but not bad enough to take it from an enemy. After making emotional pleas in 1994 on &lt;i&gt;The 700 Club&lt;/i&gt; for cash donations to Operation Blessing to support airlifts of refugees from Rwanda to Zaire, it was later discovered, by a reporter from &lt;i&gt;The Virginian-Pilot&lt;/i&gt;, that Operation Blessing's planes were transporting diamond-mining equipment for the Robertson-owned African Development Corporation, a venture Robertson had established in cooperation with Zaire's dictator, Mobutu Sese Seko, whom Robertson had befriended earlier in 1993. According to Operation Blessing documents, Robertson personally owned the planes used for Operation Blessing airlifts.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p style="color: rgb(51, 51, 255);"&gt;In 1993, Mobutu was denied a visa by the U.S. State Department after he sought to visit Washington D.C. Shortly after this, Robertson tried to get the State Department to lift its ban on the African leader.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p style="color: rgb(51, 51, 255);"&gt;An investigation by the Commonwealth of Virginia's Office of Consumer Affairs determined that Robertson "willfully induced contributions from the public through the use of misleading statements and other implications" and called for a criminal prosecution against Robertson in 1999. However, Virginia Attorney General Mark Earley, a Republican whose largest campaign contributor two years earlier was Robertson himself, intervened, accepting that Robertson had made deceptive appeals but overruling the recommendation for his prosecution. No charges were ever brought against Robertson. "Two years earlier, while Virginia's investigation was gathering steam, Robertson donated $35,000 to Earley's campaign — Earley's largest contribution."&lt;/p&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Nice.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;On his 700 Club television program, Pat Robertson has sharply criticized elements of the United States government and "special interest" groups that don't share his views. In interviews with the author of a book critical of the United States Department of State, Robertson made suggestions that the explosion of a nuclear weapon at State Department Headquarters would be good for the country, and repeated those comments on the air. "What we need is for somebody to place a small nuke at Foggy Bottom."&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="text-decoration: underline; font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;sup style="font-weight: bold;" id="cite_ref-20" class="reference"&gt;&lt;a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Robertson_controversies#cite_note-20"&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/sup&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt; Robertson said during his television program, referring to the location of the State Department headquarters. He told a &lt;/span&gt;&lt;i style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;New York Times&lt;/i&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt; reporter that his interest in the horse was based purely on its aesthetics. "I don't bet and I don't gamble. I just enjoy watching horses running and performing." Harder to explain was why he spent $520,000 on the horse and intended it to compete at the track. I'm not saying they will, but if they do, just remember, you just voted God out of your city. In the last several years, he has made inappropriate remarks, for which he then has to retrack or apologize. Wouldn't it be easier to think before he spoke, and think of the ramifications of the remark? Problem with that is that according to the writings of the New Testament&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(204, 0, 0);" class="text_exposed_show"&gt;, christ did not come to push aside those old laws and make a new covenant, the old laws are still very much in affect. I would like to direct you to Matthew 5:17 where Jesus tells folks "Don't misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;now, if you want to go back to 'out with the old, in with the new' ( in spite of the fact that he clearly states that he came not to abolish but to fulfill the laws of the old testament) then eating shellfish is ok, as is mixing dairy with meat (dietary laws) etc... and that would also mean that homosexuality is in the clear to be practiced again without condemnation. They are just doing what the bible has instructed. I am not trying to start a problem, I am just trying to understand WHY?! It is clearly stated, you can't just skirt around it when it is there in black and white. So tell me how does one come to the conclusion that it is not biblical. God clearly demonized homosexuality in the old testament when he said it was an abomination, and they should/would be killed.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And why is it when I ask a christian honest questions, I want to know how they justify something I am hit with the same thing. No one can give me a clear answer, all they can do is say something such as, "I think it is wrong, I am not here to debate or convince anyone." So I will ask one more time, because I honestly want to know, How do you Justify that statement in light of the scriptures that say otherwise? Reverend Steven L Anderson is a real man of god. Seems he hates everyone, could he be the next Fred Phelps?! He also wants god to strike the president dead. A true man of love. So my friend post this article on 'that social network' that says this man actually preaches that homosexuals should be put to death. We'll Steven Anderson is correct, it is in their, Lev 20:13 says: &lt;span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 0, 0);"&gt;If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them  have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.&lt;/span&gt; What caught me off guard was his response to the article:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;h3 class="UIIntentionalStory_Message" ft="{&amp;quot;type&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;msg&amp;quot;}"&gt;&lt;span class="UIStory_Message"&gt;This kind of thing is clearly not biblical. In the worst case, Christ hates the sin not the sinner.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/h3&gt;&lt;br /&gt;whoa! WHAT?! Do you read your bible at all?! God was ruthless! I always like to ask Christians if they eat shrimp, and lobster. According to god, that is as much an abomination as being homosexual. They then try to back it up with christ coming and the 'out with the old, in with the new' thing. Problem with that is that according to the writings of the new testament, christ did not come to push aside those old laws and make a new covenant, the old laws are still very much in affect. I would like to direct you to Matthew 5:17 where Jesus tells folks "Don't misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose." I think I went over this juicy tidbit in my last blog?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now, if you want to go back to 'out with the old, in with the new' ( in spite of the fact that he clearly states that he came not to abolish but to fulfill the laws of the old testament) then eating shellfish is ok, as is mixing dairy with meat (dietary laws) etc... and that would also mean that homosexuality is in the clear to be practiced again without condemnation.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On the other hand, fornication is frowned upon in the New Testament. I wonder why we never hear much about that? main point is, you can't have it both ways.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now, a note to my friends who are homosexual and christian. I will ask in the best Julia Sweeney voice I can, for it was she who came up with this question that should make you really think:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;h3 class="UIIntentionalStory_Message" ft="{&amp;quot;type&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;msg&amp;quot;}"&gt;&lt;span class="UIStory_Message"&gt;"'What are you trying to do wanting to be in a church? I don't know what is more frightening, that people actually think the Bible is a book of morality, or that this kind of writing is in the hands of millions who take the bible literally. Do they follow ALL scriptures? Take it ALL literally? They say they do. How many of them would actually kill their children for disobedience? Let's face it folks, there would be no one left on earth! Sure, I could use these verses to scare my kids into minding me, but isn't that child abuse? Could you imagine me in the middle of a grocery store telling my kids "Get your hands off of that and put it back on the shelf, or I am going to kill you!" How many dirty looks would I get? I bet if you asked anyone giving you dirty looks if they believed in the bible they would say yes. Do you take the scripture literally? 'Of course!' they would exclaim. Then start qouting some of the above scripture, and see if they do not call you a loon! See if some one doesn't report you to child protective services. I can see they judge now, the children removed from the home, sent into foster care. Why? because it is CRAZY!! The judge would tell you 'common sense tells us this is unacceptable' yet the scripture is accepted on a weekly basis in the pew of every Christian church. It just doesn't compute. Threatening a child in ANY manner, whether it is physically, emotionally, or mentally is child abuse. I can't think of anything more emotionally scarring than telling your child that the bible is acceptable. I can think of nothing more abusive than telling your child that if they do not accept, against all logic, having an invisible friend, they will burn eternally. I do not know how any parent could tell this to their child, I could not tell this crap to mine. And why do Christians bitch when you point this out to them? simple, they were unaware it was in there, they have probably NEVER read their bible thoroughly. They do not WANT it pointed out to them, it might make them rethink their bible, possibly their god! you know? kind of like if I do not see the starving children on TV, they just don't exist. I am pulling out of here on the 15th, if I have to hijack a truck on the 14th to do it so be it. While we are on the subject of my order, can you not spell or at least listen to me when I spell? it took me 40 minutes to walk you through what I needed and spell each word for you. It would have taken me 7 minutes to order on the internet! The only reason I did not hang up after spelling ANA for you for the 3rd time is because to last time I was in there, you offered me a discount. Laughing hysterically does not cover up the fact that you can not spell 'Ana' or worse yet, 'Uhaul'!! You work there, learn to spell it! I know you are probably sitting there in bewilderment as you said 'God bless you' and I responded with 'may the big toe bless you!' someday when your not drunk, I'll explain that one to you. Revving up your tractor three weekends in a row on both Saturday and Sunday at 7:00am is becoming very old. I also realize you have no life outside of that 10 acres you just bought next to our land, the heavens know with that insipid personality of yours, you will more than likely never get laid, but there are those of us who do stay up late on Friday nights or Saturday nights to do just that, after the kiddos have gone to sleep.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So let me give you a piece of advise you rude bastard: do not start that tractor tomorrow morning when the Sunday sky starts to shine. Do yourself a huge favor and go to church and pray to that god you claim is so good to you. though I can't see this being true seeing that your 45 years old and having never seen a tit, let alone been laid! Find something quiet to do. Watch some boob tube, read the paper, sleep in for pity sake! sit back and have a nice cup of joe, because come tomorrow morning, if you start that fucking tractor before 10:00am in the morning, I am going to personally come over to your property, knock you off the damn thing and pull your ball sack stretching it tightly up between your legs until you groan in tremendous pain. Then I will snap your sack like a rubber band so hard your balls will thump you in your nerdy screwed up face. Then you will have no choice but to turn off the damn tractor, and go in your house and soak your painful balls in a bowl of ice. I also had no idea that it would cause massive ass explosions into the damn toilet!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Who in the hell makes a product that leaves one in so much pain that they actually considered praying to any one of the supposed gods in heaven, tooth fairy, easter bunny, santa clause and anyone else that may be able to help pull them through the next ass explosion? If ever there were a such thing as satan, I would swear he/she/it cooked up the recipe for this crapfest inducing food.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What kind of sick fuck thought of marketing this so called food. I will forever be convinced that your fucked up fiber bars are made with large quantities of&lt;br /&gt;ex lax. The lady that helped us was nice enough. I had my Blackberry in my back pocket. When it rang, she thought I was having stomach problems until I demonstrated that my ring tone was in fact the sound of a nice soggy fart. So was not amused. At that point I lost any respect for her, for she had no sense of humor. I picked out the phone I wanted and one for my husband proudly exclaimed, "Look honey, I have droids!" Again, no sense of humor. I was disappointed. I bet she is a real blast to hang with! OK, the Droid is an awesome phone if your wondering. I traded up from a Blackberry, and so far so good, but it's only been 6 hours. I'll let you know if I am still madly in love with my Droid in a couple of months. Funny thing about this lady that waited on us, her husband was standing against the wall waiting for her to get off work. I couldn't help but notice how many times this guy had to straighten his dangly bits, or reach deeply to scratch his ass. It made me wonder what her problem was with my ring tone. I always go for shock value and respond with "no, I have slept with Jesus, his love was not that good."  Well, anyway, I have a lot to bitch about and it all comes tumbling out of my head and horrifyingly enough out of my mouth as well! Maybe this will help curb my appetite for letting stupid people around me know how stupid I really think they are. Maybe not. At the very least, it will give me a place to come and place my thoughts some where, and perhaps help me keep up with whom I have accused of being stupid so that I do not continue to beat up on the same person day in and day out. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I promise I will be here to bitch on a weekly basis. I am good at it, and for some reason, stupid people are attracted to me. Part of the reason I believe they like to corner me is because I am&lt;br /&gt;A) a woman and B)an atheist. usually the stupidity comes from Christian folks who just do not understand that I know their bible probably better than they do! Throw that scripture at me Brother Yaps-a-lot, I can hurl it right back at you! I was a preachers daughter for 20+ years. Been there, done that. Since I felt no need for a cigarette after the fact, I am not interested in doing it again! I live in the bible belt, well, at least for now. I have some wonderful children and an awesome husband. I am one of those women who LOVES their mother in law. No, really, I do. She is a wise old woman for whom I care deeply and admire. After all, she did raise one hell of an awesome son!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So I hope you visit often. They are my thoughts, and you must understand, I think life is to short to hold back, so I will be bitching often.
